Luke's Connections class went on an awesome field trip this week. They visited the Pascagoula Watershed and Audubon Center . The Pascagoula River is one of the last free-flowing rivers in the United States. This center was absolutely so amazing about teaching the kids about conservation, indigenous plants and coastal birds. It was super educational and entertaining for me, as well. I love going on the field trips because I always learn so much about our coast.
One of the perks of being a stay-at-home mom. Chaperoning!
An Osprey and it's giant nest.
Luke also pointed out a bald eagle and the guide director got out the binoculars and Luke was right! The whole boat got to pass around the binoculars and see the bald eagle flying, it was so cool.
Luke has been really into "birding" lately and recently used his report card money to purchase a Field Guide to North American Birds. I'm not kidding. I think at that age, I used my money to buy something really educational like a Cabbage Patch Kid coin purse.
Look really close on the log...an alligator!
After the bayou tour, the kids learned about watershed, water gardens, native plants, conservation, etc. They even planted a special tree to honor their school, Oak Park.
Awesome, awesome Connections Kids!
Amelia had a field trip the same day so Stephen and I had to divide and conquer. Amelia's 5th grade class went to the Sandhill Crane refuge here on the coast. Another awesome field trip that I have gone on in previous years.
Daddy and Amelia, thank goodness it is still cool to bring your Dad on a field trip in 5th grade. I was appreciative Stephen at least took these two pictures on the field trip. No shots of the cranes but hey, beggars cannot be choosers.
This week was a crazy busy week with the kids. One play, two field trips and three Easter parties! Stay tuned for more updates:)
