It is a tradition in Ocean Springs for our four graders to go on a class trip to our capital city, Jackson, Mississippi. Jackson is three hours away so the bus left school at 5:00 am and did not get back to school until 10pm! My brain must have taken a leave of absence because I volunteered to chaperone four classes of fourth graders. Our itinerary was The Old State Capital, The New State Capital, Science Museum, Art Museum, Sports Hall of Fame, Agricultural Museum, whew.

This Capital building was built in 1839 and I absolutely loved this part of our trip. Exhibit #1 that I am getting older : I enjoy museums. The architecture and history was really amazing. It was really neat to sit in the same rooms that made history in Mississippi, like in 1861 when Mississippi voted to secede from the Union.
The one picture we took of the two of us. I look like a totally goon though so I guess that is good we only had one. I wore my running shoes which are obnoxiously bright but I was worried my feet would hurt with all of the walking (Exhibit #2-wearing shoes for comfort). I also told my group that they would be able to spot my pink shoes from all over Jackson so they would not get lost.

Next we visited the Art Museum. It was really special because we got to see some beautiful Monet and Renoir works that were on lone in Jackson for just a short amount of time. I told the girls how special it was to see these famous artists original works. Amelia's teacher was very kind to me because she gave me Amelia and two other girls to chaperone. They were wonderful and actually wanted to learn and experience the things we were seeing throughout the day. Some of the chaperones with all boys, well, let's just say they looked a little more frazzled at the end of the day. I better remember to send Stephen when it is Luke's turn to go to Jackson.

In our Ocean Springs, home sweet home :) Amelia's friends kept telling her, "Amelia, you and your mom look just alike." I guess I should count my blessings that Amelia still smiles when told that. It might not be long until being told that makes her eyes roll to the back of her head.
Our day continues on at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. This was a really fun one too, I would be happy to come back here with my family and spend more time.

By the time we hit the Agricultural museum, we were all very wiped out. I remember a lot of farm equipment and trains.
Oh, and a giant rocking chair....
I was so glad I got to accompany Amelia on this trip and she still thinks it's cool to hang with her mom. I hope that never changes but I am sure it will someday. She even chose to sit with me on the bus so I was a lucky mommy.
